To everyone who sticks their nose up to others when they engage in conversation about an anime IN ENGLISH...............SHUT THE FUCK UP.
It pains me that the most elitist of anime fans are those who prefer to 'read' their anime because of their preferences being, for one reason or another (be it stupid or not. But most of the time, just stupid) justify that the "English is not good enough to justify a purchase." or that anyone who likes the franchise first and foremost for it needs to die.
Listen. We're in America. You fucking LEARN to speak English here and therefore trying to say "Oh well it sounds better in Japanese."
Why?
Someone provide me with a DECENT argument for once because as of today, nobody ever has on the topic. They either respond with "It just sounds better" or "I don't like *name*'s voice." or "I don't think it works in the show." but nothing else, and when they DO try to sound smart and give me any and ALL good reasons to watch it in Japanese, they falter and I'm left, walking away chuckling to myself to their sheer stupidity, or shaking my head going "Anime shouldn't have to be judged on such a factor, for god's sake.".
Unless it's done by 4kidz, who have no respect for any and all anime they touch, then I concur that nobody can say that any dub is "horrible" or anything else unless they prove me wrong.
I agree with this. I watch dubs and subs and I gotta say, for the most part for Dragon ball, the dub is more enjoyable. I think people's fascination with Japanese culture right now has them feeling elitist when they watch the "real" version (they can't even understand Japanese so how do they know their subs are the real thing anyway). I really don't care which version people watch I just wish they would stop bashing on the dubs because they wanna sound impressive.

to those that do understand Japanese *which there are a rare number of them* THEY are the only ones who can determine whether the original Japanese dubs are ANY good at all compared to us.
I mean for God's sakes...English or Japanese, there's a load of just one-word sentences for overdramatic scenes in anime where characters just say the person's name.
OMG SO DRAMATIC SO GREAT VOICE ACTING THIS IS BETTER THAN THE ENGLISH DUR HUR.
That is what gripes me so hard.
Especially when it comes to fanbases on say, my current favorite anime, Gurren Lagann. There are people who don't give the series a chance at all PURELY for the voice of Kamina (who is a revered, loved voice to begin with, which makes me wonder "why?" to those who claim to be those with good taste) being "bad".

You wanna know the truth....subbers are simply to lazy to go out and find actual dubs so instead they would rather have us believe that pro-dubbers are to lazy to read subtitles or claim that dubs aren't the way the creator intended the characters to sound. which is a retarded argument since the characters wouldn't have said voice if the creator gave a dam about something so trivial. And then there is the subbers that say dubbed anime is edited and bastardized into a kiddie version of it's former glory. Thats only true for 4kids.....god just look what they did to one piece. One of the things that does bug me about dubs is replacing the music from animes with some retarded rap although thats about it.
The only anime I actually watch in subs is bleach and that is simply because the series dub hasn't progressed very far I'm simply an inpatient person and would rather watch it now then wait two years for a dub to come out.
I personally don't care if I watch dubs or subs (and like you, I avoid 4kids like the plague).
What matters the most when I watch anime is not whether it's subbed or dubbed, but that I get the actual general "take-home" message being conveyed in the anime (i.e. "moral-of-the-story", etc.). People usually write these anime stories for a reason.
And people are VERY quick to write shit off very easily, which is why as well as Naruto is doing, people are still quick to call it off as another story that's plagued by so much.
Yes it has many flashbacks and ultraultraultraultra reemphasis on friendship and, well everything that goes with it.

Plus, ninjas are better anyways.

i am so using this! i hate how anime fans say theyre hardcore cuz they watch their anime in subs. bull crap! i watch all my anime in dub form and no one can say that im not a hardcore fan! anime sub fans should be happy with english dubs (except for 4kids ones cuz yeah... i dont need to explain) cuz that means more business for the anime industry which also means more money for making more anime! (well thats a kinda lame reason but still...)
i prefer my anime in a language i can understand! i watch subs when im really really desperate if the anime i want to watch isnt dubbed yet but sometimes i dont get what theyre trying to say. like comedy anime for example. what considered funny in japan is not always the same as whats considered funny in america/canada/other places where the english language is used. and plus i like to multi-task when i watch tv. how can i do that when i have to read the whole time in order to find out whats going on???
